Yuvraj Tells Gambhir 'You Can't Just Go With Young Guys' Amidst Kohli-Rohit Debate

Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh has said that the team will need to balance experienced players with the young cricketers, adding that if the management believes that the veterans, like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, wouldn’t be in their plans till next year, they will have to be informed now, although it would be a difficult decision.

Earlier this week, multiple reports suggested that Rohit could be playing his final international game for India at Lord’s, with the selection committee not considering him part of their plans for next year’s ODI World Cup in South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe, according to reports.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia dismissed the speculation and now Yuvraj has weighed in, requesting Gambhir and chief selector Ajit

Agarkar to be transparent with both Rohit and Kohli about their futures.

“It is up to the management who they want to stick with. Ideally, you need experience in the team. You cannot just go with young guys, or you just cannot go with only experience in the team,” Yuvraj said while speaking to Star Sports.

“Whatever your plans are, if you want these guys to go for the World Cup, you tell them now and you secure them now. That is great, you are going to the World Cup, don’t worry about anything,” Yuvraj added.

Ever since Rohit and Kohli stepped away from Tests, questions over their ODI futures have remained a major talking point. Last year, reports had suggested that the duo could retire after the Australia series, but those claims didn’t materialise.

“Or if you feel that someone isn’t fitting, tell them, it is going to look bad, it is going to be a hard call, but eventually the guy will appreciate that you said it on his face,” Yuvraj said.

The former Indian cricketer added Rohit and Virat have made immense contributions to Indian cricket and deserve to be treated with respect.
