New Delhi, Sep 13 (PTI) BSF personnel rescued 10 Bangladeshis, including an infant, who were drowning in the Ganga river along the international border between the two countries in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district, officials said on Sunday.
The incident took place on Saturday evening when troops of the 71st battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) noticed the distressed persons near the Khandua border post.
The group included a 30-day-old infant, two children, and three women, all of whom were rescued after their boat capsized in the river. The BSF launched a rescue operation using a speedboat to reach them, officials said.
The Bangladeshis informed that they were residents of Joharpur village and were travelling from Chapai Nawabganj to
Joharpur in Bangladesh when their boat suddenly capsized, causing all passengers to fall into the river and drift towards the Indian side, officials added.
The BSF administered first aid to them and then took them to a government hospital. Once their condition stabilised, the BSF handed them over to their counterparts in the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). PTI NES MPL MPL
