Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming action drama King is shaping up to be a cinematic spectacle unlike anything Indian audiences have seen before. The project, which marks the superstar’s return to the high-octane
genre after Pathaan and Jawan, is already making headlines for its massive ensemble cast, international production scale, and staggering budget.
The teaser glimpse — unveiled on SRK’s birthday, November 2 — sent fans into a frenzy, not only for his salt-and-pepper rugged look but also for the film’s breathtaking scope. From what’s known so far, King promises to deliver a global-level action experience, blending emotion, style, and scale in true Shah Rukh fashion.
₹350 Crore Production Makes King One of India’s Most Expensive Films
According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, King is being mounted on an unprecedented budget of ₹350 crore, positioning it among the costliest action films ever produced in India. Director Siddharth Anand — who previously redefined Bollywood action with Pathaan and War — is said to be approaching the project with the ambition of creating an Indian blockbuster that can rival Hollywood’s best, but on a fraction of the cost.
The filmmaker has reportedly planned six world-class action sequences for the movie, three of which will be shot on real international locations, while the rest will unfold on meticulously designed sets. The film’s opening sequence, centered around Shah Rukh Khan’s introduction as the titular character, is said to be one of the biggest highlights — and among the most expensive scenes ever filmed for an Indian movie.
From ₹150 Crore to ₹350 Crore: The Evolution of King
Interestingly, King didn’t begin as a mega-budget action extravaganza. Initial reports suggest that when the project was first conceptualized with Suhana Khan in the lead and Sujoy Ghosh as director, the budget was set at around ₹150 crore. However, as the story evolved and Shah Rukh Khan decided to take center stage, the team realized the potential to mount the film on a much larger canvas.
It was then that Siddharth Anand came on board as director, bringing his flair for scale and adrenaline-fueled storytelling. With his involvement, King transformed into one of the most ambitious ventures ever undertaken by Red Chillies Entertainment and Marflix Pictures.
A Star-Studded Lineup
Adding to its grandeur, King features a stellar ensemble cast including Abhishek Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Rani Mukerji, Jaideep Ahlawat, Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Arshad Warsi, Raghav Juyal, Saurabh Shukla, Abhay Verma, Karanvir Malhotra, and Suhana Khan. The film, currently in production, is slated for a grand release in 2026.
With its mix of star power, scale, and Siddharth Anand’s signature visual flair, King is poised to redefine the boundaries of Indian action cinema — and perhaps, take the crown as Shah Rukh Khan’s most monumental project yet.
