UP CM Yogi Orders Faster Action Against Economic Crimes, Pushes For Tech-Driven Investigations

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday directed officials to speed up investigations into economic offences, ensure timely prosecution and strengthen the state’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) with technology-driven systems.

Reviewing the functioning of the EOW, the chief minister stressed the need for quicker disposal of pending cases and stronger efforts to secure convictions in cases involving financial fraud, forgery, embezzlement and other economic crimes.

“Financial fraud, forgery, embezzlement and other economic offences not only affect government resources but also damage public trust. Strict and time-bound action must be ensured against the guilty in such cases,” Adityanath said during the review meeting.

the chief minister that 155 investigations, inquiries and follow-up actions had been completed till May 31 this year, while 71 accused had been arrested during the same period.

Adityanath directed officials to accelerate the disposal of old cases and intensify action against wanted accused. He also stressed that prosecution and judicial proceedings should be expedited wherever sufficient evidence is available.

To improve investigations, the chief minister backed greater use of technology and reviewed a newly developed Case Management System (CMS) for digital case handling, online reporting, real-time monitoring and dashboard-based tracking.

He directed officials to ensure effective use of the platform, saying technology would improve transparency, accountability and the overall quality of investigations. The chief minister also said investigating officers should not keep any case pending for more than three months and that accountability must be fixed in such instances.

The chief minister further called for greater public awareness about financial fraud, investment scams and other economic crimes, saying citizens must be equipped to deal with emerging threats in an increasingly digital environment.

Officials informed the meeting that the EOW is running an awareness campaign titled “Awareness, Information, Prevention” to educate people about economic offences and methods to avoid them. Adityanath directed that the campaign be expanded further.

The meeting also reviewed plans related to capacity building, specialised training for investigators and the use of modern technology to tackle increasingly complex economic crimes, including Ponzi schemes, multi-level marketing frauds, chit fund scams and cyber fraud.
