The second unofficial Test of the three-match series between India A and New Zealand A will be played from October 31 to November 3 at Hagley Oval in Christchurch. The first unofficial Test between the two teams in Lincoln last week ended in a draw. In the first innings of the series opener, India A batters could only manage to score 113 runs but bounced back and posted a big total in the second innings.
In the second unofficial Test, once again, there will be high hopes from Devdutt Padikkal. The left-handed batter from Karnataka scored 199 runs in the second innings, while B Sai Sudharsan also made 90-plus runs after scoring a duck in the first innings.
India’s Test vice-captain KL Rahul will miss the second unofficial Test due to his involvement
in the preparations for the upcoming five-match ODI series. Jharkhand’s Shikhar Mohan has been added to the India A squad as Rahul’s replacement, and he could open the innings along with Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored 17 and 5 in the first match.
Fast bowler Mohammed Siraj has also been added to the India A squad, and he will lead the pace attack along with Akash Deep, Anshul Kamboj, Mukesh Kumar, Auqib Nabi and Mukesh Choudhary. Meanwhile, the onus of spin bowling will be on Washington Sundar. It will be interesting to see if Manav Suthar, Kumar Kushagra or Smaran Ravichandran get a chance to feature in the playing XI for the second unofficial Test.
