Jofra Archer entered his name in the history books on Saturday (May 9) by bowling the longest first over in IPL history. Archer opened the bowling for Rajasthan Royals in their ongoing Indian Premier League 2026 match against Gujarat Titans
at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur and bowled a total of 11 deliveries in the opening over. He bowled four wides and one no-ball before completing six legal deliveries.IPL 2026 | Schedule | Results | Orange Cap | Purple Cap
Archer is the first overseas bowler and the seventh overall to bowl an 11-ball over in IPL history.
Mohammed Siraj was the first bowler in IPL history to bowl an 11-ball over. He achieved the unwanted feat while playing for Royal Challengers Bengaluru against Mumbai Indians during the 2023
season at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
His unwanted record was matched by Tushar Deshpande for Chennai Super Kings in the same season. In the 2025 IPL season, three more bowlers — Shardul Thakur (LSG), Sandeep Sharma (RR), and Hardik Pandya (MI) — also bowled 11-ball overs.
Before Archer, Arshdeep Singh had also bowled an 11-ball over in this year’s IPL. Interestingly, he too achieved the unwanted feat against Gujarat Titans.

He did not concede any run on the second legal delivery of the over but overstepped on the third. On the resulting free-hit, Archer bowled another wide, which also went for four, adding five runs to Gujarat Titans’ total.
Archer then bowled two more wides in a row before Shubman Gill took a single on the fourth legal delivery of the over. On the fifth legal ball, Sudharsan ran two runs and then took a single on the sixth and final delivery.
