Delhi Capitals secured a seven-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians in the 13th match of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 at Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara on Tuesday.
Skipper Jemimah Rodrigues led the team with an unbeaten 51, following a strong opening performance from wicketkeeper-batter Lizelle Lee, who scored 46. Chasing a modest target of 155, Delhi’s innings almost faltered midway, but Rodrigues ensured there was no late drama. She focused on precise placement and consistent running between the wickets, guiding Delhi to victory with six balls to spare.
Earlier, Delhi’s bowlers laid a solid foundation, with Marizanne Kapp delivering an exceptional performance on what she described as “not a nice wicket to bowl on.” Kapp bowled 16 dot balls,
conceding just eight runs in her four overs and not allowing a single boundary. Her control, along with Nandani Sharma’s efforts, left Mumbai struggling at 23/2 in the Power-play, with Sajana (9) and Hayley Matthews (12) dismissed early.
Turning Points
Despite the early setbacks, Mumbai stabilised their innings through Nat Sciver-Brunt and captain Harmanpreet Kaur. Sciver-Brunt remained unbeaten on 65 from 45 deliveries, while Kaur contributed a solid 41. At the nine-over mark, Mumbai were 47 for 2, with Sciver-Brunt on 8 and Kaur on 18. The pair added 78 runs for the third wicket, reaching 100 after 13.6 overs. Sciver-Brunt scored her 11th half-century in the league with a 34-ball effort, tying Meg Lanning’s record for most half-centuries in the competition.
Harmanpreet Kaur eventually fell for 41, caught by Sree Charani, while Sciver-Brunt continued to anchor the innings. Mumbai finished at 154 for 5, thanks to 42 runs in the last five overs and a six off the final ball.
Delhi’s bowlers, particularly Sree Charani, were instrumental in restricting Mumbai. Charani took 3 wickets for 33 runs, including two in the 18th over, while Kapp provided crucial support with 1 wicket for 8 runs.
In response, Delhi’s opening pair, Shafali Verma and Lizelle Lee, quickly put pressure on Mumbai. Lee batted confidently before a contentious umpiring decision ended her innings. Shafali also failed to convert her start into a significant score. Laura Wolvaardt’s surprising dismissal added to the tension.
At this juncture, Rodrigues stepped up, driven by focus and perhaps by an incident involving Amanjot Kaur. The skipper played a composed innings, marked by smart placement and energetic running between the wickets, leading Delhi to a controlled victory.
For Mumbai, WPL debutant Vaishnavi Sharma was a standout, finishing with 1 for 20. However, they need to monitor Nicola Carey’s absence from the field during the chase as they move forward.
