After the massive success of James Gunn’s Superman earlier this year, the DC Studios co-head has shared the latest draft of the highly anticipated sequel Superman: Man of Tomorrow, which will once again star David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult as Superman and Lex Luthor.
Fans believe that the much-awaited sequel will feature a new villain character after Gunn dropped possible hints with a sneak peek at the Man of Tomorrow screenplay.
James Gunn Shares Glimpses of Man of Tomorrow’s New Draft
As the second draft of Man of Tomorrow was completed on September 22, Gunn took to social media to share the progress with his audiences. Gunn shared a picture on X and credited himself as the writer as well as artists Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, the creators
of Superman. The picture quickly grabbed the attention of fans as they noticed that it includes an illustration of a brain, a possible hint at the main villain.
As soon as Gunn dropped the update, fans went crazy decoding the possible hint of a new villain. One fan guessed, “BRAINIAC???” Another user commented, “So the main villain is going to be Brainiac? Makes sense.” Someone else wrote, “Brainiac in live action? I’ve been praying for a time like this.” A fan suggested, “James Gunn can do so many things with Brainiac, for example, bring the storyline of Ghost in a Machine from Superman: TAS to live action, with the Divided We Fall from Justice League Unlimited that is a continuation from the Superman: TAS episode,” while others simply suggested Breaking Bad actor Giancarlo Esposito should be cast in the role.

What Do We Know About Brainiac?
Created by writer Otto Binder and artist Al Plastino, Brainiac first appeared in Action Comics #242 in 1958 and is considered one of the greatest enemies of Superman. Brainiac is a super intelligent android or cyborg who hails from the planet Colu and is obsessed with collecting all knowledge in the known universe. He travels the galaxy and shrinks cities to bottle-sized miniature pieces and preserves them on his skull-shaped spaceship. After preserving them, he destroys their source planets, as he wants to be the only one acquiring such valuable knowledge. Brainiac was last seen in the television series Superman and Lois. With the brand new glimpses shared by Gunn fans expect to watch Brainiac again in Man of Tomorrow, which is set to release on July 9, 2027.
