Aditya Dhar’s latest spy thriller, Dhurandhar, featuring Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, and R Madhavan, among others, has become one of the most talked-about topics in recent
times. The gripping storyline, coupled with the outstanding performance of the cast, has been receiving praise from both audiences and critics alike. Besides Ranveer and Akshaye’s characters, another notable performance was that of Sanjay Dutt’s.
The actor portrayed SSP Chaudhary Aslam, a character inspired by Pakistan’s renowned encounter specialist Chaudhary Aslam Khan. But did you know that before he took on this role, the real-life officer was once compared to another iconic character played by Sanjay Dutt?
Chaudhary Aslam Khan Was Compared To ACP Shamsher Khan From Shootout At Lokhandwala
According to a social media post that has caught people’s attention, Chaudhary Aslam Khan was once compared to ACP Shamsher Khan, head of the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), a role played by the actor in the 2007 action thriller Shootout at Lokhandwala. The film was based on the 1991 Lokhandwala complex shootout between gangsters and the Mumbai police.
Shamsher Khan’s character was based on Aftab Ahmed Khan, an IPS officer from Maharashtra Police who is credited with starting the Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) in the state and was part of several encounters.
Dunya News, a Pakistani media outlet, was the first to make the comparison back in 2012. A side-by-side video comparing the two officers was shared in the post, showing the exact signature walking styles of Aslam Khan and Shamsher Khan.
Dunya News did a report on Chaudhary Aslam and compared him to Shamsher Khan character played by Sanjay Dutt in Shootout at Lokhandwala in 2012.

Who Was Chaudhary Aslam Khan?
Now, 13 years later, Sanjay Dutt played the famed Pakistani encounter specialist. Aslam Khan, who joined the police in the ‘80s, created the Lyari Task Force and captured or neutralised major gang leaders such as Rehman Dacoit and Uzair Baloch. He became a target of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Lashkar-e-Jhangvi. Chaudhry Aslam was killed on January 9, 2014, when a suicide bomber rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into his convoy on the Lyari Expressway. The attack was claimed by TTP.
Before the film’s release, Aslam Khan’s widow criticised the makers of Dhurandhar, calling the portrayal of her late husband “offensive”. She even accused the filmmaker of glorifying the criminals in the film and warned of legal action if the film misrepresented the martyred Sindh police officer.
Speaking of Dhurandhar, the film, which hit theatres on December 5, has grossed over Rs 224 crore worldwide.
