South Africa’s young opener Jordan Hermann has continued to impress in the ongoing two-match unofficial Test series against India A. After a composed 71 in the first game, the left-hander followed it up with a fluent 91 off 123 deliveries in the second match, forming a crucial 156-run partnership with Lesego Senokwane in their pursuit of a daunting 417-run target.
His fearless batting against a quality Indian bowling attack featuring Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, and Kuldeep Yadav drew admiration from former India all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin.
Taking to his official X account, Ashwin lauded the 23-year-old’s temperament and progress in South African cricket.
“South Africa ‘A’ led by Jordan Herman are throwing in some punches on
day 4 of the Unofficial Test, chasing 417. He is batting on 90 against Siraj, Prasidh, Kuldeep and Akash Deep. Whatever happens today, Jordan Hermann has made rapid strides in the South African cricket circles. He plays for the SR Eastern Cape in the SA 20,” Ashwin wrote on X.

Hermann’s innings kept South Africa A in the hunt during a dominant morning session on Day 4, where India A conceded 114 runs in 27 overs. However, it was Prasidh Krishna who finally broke the resistance, dismissing Hermann on the final delivery of the 43rd over. Bowling a full toss outside off, Prasidh tempted Hermann into a drive, but the batter failed to keep it down, offering a return catch that the bowler gratefully accepted.
In the first unofficial Test, South Africa A had come agonisingly close to victory before India A snatched a thrilling three-wicket win, thanks to some late fireworks with the bat. The second fixture has once again showcased the depth and competitiveness between the two sides.
Once the unofficial series concludes, both teams will shift focus to the senior-level contests, as India and South Africa are set to meet in two Test matches, followed by three ODIs and five T20Is across various venues in India.
