Palghar, Jun 22 (PTI) Two men have been arrested in connection with a series of housebreaking incidents, and valuables worth Rs 14.5 lakh were recovered from them in Maharashtra’s Palghar district, police said on Monday.
A spurt of burglaries was reported in Dahanu taluka over the last few months, following which special teams were formed to nab the culprits, District Superintendent of Police Yatish Deshmukh said.
Acting on a tip-off, the police on Saturday arrested Hasmat Ali Tahir Sheikh (33) and Anwar Ali Tahir Sheikh (41), both residents of the Nalasopara area and hailing from Uttar Pradesh, he said.
“During sustained interrogation, the duo confessed to their involvement in seven burglaries across the Gholwad, Dahanu, and Wangaon police station
limits,” the official said.
The police have recovered gold and silver, Rs 1 lakh in cash, and expensive fixtures collectively valued at Rs 14.50 lakh from the duo, he added. PTI COR ARU
