India created history in para athletics at the Commonwealth Games with a landmark one-two finish in the men’s 100m T47 final on Wednesday. Dilip Mahadu Gavit clinched the gold medal, while compatriot Mohammed Basil Morssinganakath bagged silver to complete a memorable double podium for the nation.
Gavit produced a brilliant Games Record and season-best performance of 10.71 seconds to storm to gold with a clear advantage. His compatriot Basil also delivered a season-best 10.83 seconds to bag silver in a closely contested race.
England’s Kevin Santos completed the podium with a season-best 10.85 seconds to win bronze.
The gold medal marked India’s third at the Glasgow CWG, after Mirabai Chanu’s win in the women’s 48kg weightlifting event and Sharmila
Dhankar’s victory in the women’s shot put F57 para athletics category.
The men’s 100m T47 is a para athletics sprint event for athletes with a unilateral arm impairment or limb absence, which affects strength, movement or coordination on one side of the body.
