Mumbai Indians (MI) openers Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton put up a brilliant 143-run partnership against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday (May 4). This was their third 100-run-plus stand in the IPL, making them the first to do so in the franchise’s history for any wicket.

MI beat LSG by 6 wickets
After losing the toss and getting asked to bat first, LSG got off to a blazing start, riding on Nicholas Pooran’s explosive 63 off 21 balls and Mitchell Marsh’s
44 to surge to 123/1 in eight overs.
Pooran, ending a long lean run, smashed eight sixes to reach a 16-ball fifty as LSG looked set for a 240-plus total. However, Corbin Bosch struck twice to remove both set batters, triggering a slowdown. From 123/1, LSG slipped to 160/4 before Aiden Markram (31*) and Himmat Singh (40*) stitched an unbeaten 68-run stand to lift them to 228/5.
In reply, MI began steadily before Rohit and Ryan took charge. Rohit, returning after a hamstring injury, found his rhythm quickly, while Rickelton continued his impressive form with aggressive stroke play. The duo added 143 runs for the opening wicket, putting MI firmly in control of the chase.
Rickelton fell for a quickfire 83, while Rohit, who struck seven sixes and six fours in his 84, missed out on a century. Brief hiccups followed as Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav departed cheaply, but the target was never out of reach. Naman Dhir and Will Jacks ensured there were no further setbacks, guiding MI to 229/4 in 18.4 overs. The six-wicket win helped Mumbai secure a crucial victory in their campaign.
