People clean their homes, decorate them, and prepare special offerings to welcome the goddess.

The best time to perform the Lakshmi Puja is during the Muhurat, which is from 7:08 PM to 8:18 PM on October 20.

The auspicious Pradosh Kaal lasts from 5:46 PM to 8:18 PM, while Vrishabha Kaal falls between 7:08 PM and 9:03 PM.

Diwali 2025: Lakshmi Puja Rituals

1. Start the day early by cleaning your home and paying respects to ancestors and family deities.
2. Many people also perform shradh rituals since Diwali falls on Amavasya Tithi.
3. Some devotees observe a day-long fast, breaking it only after the evening puja.
4. Decorate your home with marigold flowers, mango or banana leaves, and Ashoka branches.
5. Placing a mangalik kalash (a pot with water, rice, a coin, and a coconut) at the entrance is believed to bring good luck.

Steps to Perform Lakshmi Puja

1. Spread a red cloth on a raised platform and place Goddess Lakshmi on the right and Lord Ganesha on the left.
2. On a white cloth, place nine small rice heaps to represent the navagraha (nine planets).
3. Fill a kalash with water, rice grains, a coin, and a betel nut. Cover with mango leaves and a coconut on top.
4. Make 16 small heaps of wheat or flour on the red cloth.
5. Place gold or silver coins near Goddess Lakshmi to invite prosperity.
6. Offer flowers, fruits, sweets, coins, and incense while chanting the Lakshmi Puja mantras.
