Parmeet Sethi and Archana Puran Singh have shared insights into their nearly four-decade-long relationship, highlighting the hurdles they overcame together. In the latest episode of Archana’s YouTube series Pyaar Dosti Hai, the couple reflected on the early years of their marriage, which included failed businesses, career shifts, and societal skepticism about their age difference.
Archana recalled that many people initially considered their relationship unconventional. She said, “In today’s Gen Z language, you were a red flag. People say that about guys who aren’t earning or aren’t settled. For a man, the woman being older was also a red flag. Our panditji said, ‘Looking at your kundli, I would have advised you not to get married.’” Despite these
warnings, the couple persevered through challenges in the initial years of their life together.
Parmeet’s Business Failure and Depression
Parmeet Sethi shared his emotional struggle after his business failed. He set up an export garment business in Bangalore, which initially received orders from European brands. However, the orders were abruptly canceled, leaving him devastated. He recalled calling Archana from an STD booth, crying and asking, “Mai kya karu?” Archana reassured him to come back home, offering the unwavering support that he says few others would have provided.
He admitted that the experience and Archana’s encouragement made him reassess his career. Seeing her handle the business of acting so confidently, he realised he could pivot professionally. Parmeet said he decided to pursue acting after observing that, unlike his previous business, money in acting came reliably, and talent could be sold directly.
Archana’s Perspective on Financial Challenges
Archana reflected on how financial problems were easier to navigate than emotional ones, saying she always prayed that any problems be only financial. She added that even during recent financial setbacks, she found comfort in the fact that they faced challenges together. She told Parmeet, “Bittu, it’s a financial problem; at least the both of us are together.”
The Shift to Acting and Mutual Support
While Archana initially expressed doubts about Parmeet pursuing acting, citing his introverted nature, she later admitted that she was glad he followed his instincts. Parmeet remembered her saying, “I don’t want a struggling boyfriend.” Archana explained that her own earnings made her unconcerned about who was financially contributing. Ultimately, their mutual support and trust helped Parmeet transition successfully into acting, proving their resilience as a couple.
