The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) took to X on Tuesday (December 30) to announce England’s 15-member provisional squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, which is set to be played from February
7 to March 8 across five venues in India and three in Sri Lanka. Harry Brook will captain the two-time T20 World Cup winners in the 20-team tournament next year, and the squad also includes the likes of Jos Buttler, Phil Salt, Jofra Archer, Sam Curran and Adil Rashid, among others. But surprisingly there was no place for batting all-rounder Liam Livingstone.
Livingstone, who was signed for Rs 13 crore by Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2026 auction held on December 16 in Abu Dhabi, last played a T20I match for the Three Lions on February 2, 2025, against India at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
He has made 60 T20I appearances for England so far and scored 955 runs in addition to taking 33 wickets.
Bring it on! 🔥

In addition to Livingstone, wicketkeeper-batter Jamie Smith has also been ignored by England selectors. Jamie, who went unsold in the IPL 2026 auction, has played 19 ODIs and 5 T20Is for England. He was part of the English team that played five T20Is in India at the start of this year.
Before featuring in the T20 World Cup 2026, England will play three ODIs and three T20I matches in Sri Lanka. Jofra Archer will miss both the white-ball series in Sri Lanka due to an injury which he suffered while playing in the third Ashes Test at Adelaide Oval. In his place, pacer Brydon Carse will feature in the ODI and T20I series against Sri Lanka.
Fast bowler Josh Tongue, who played a big role in England’s four-wicket win against Australia in the fourth Test of the ongoing Ashes series, has earned his maiden T20I call-up and is part of the T20 World Cup 2026 squad.
