Discussions about work-life balance have been gaining more attention in India as professionals try to figure out how much time should go into their jobs and how much should be kept for their personal life.
Many people share their experiences online where they state how the lines are blurred with work going on far beyond the office hours. The shift towards remote work locations has only added to the ongoing woes as people are seen with laptops in public places such as cafes, parks and even while travelling.
Amid these conversations, one unusual moment from a Delhi Metro ride caught attention. Unlike the usual viral clips of chaos or fights, this video showed a striking scene that perfectly captured the irony of modern work culture.
The Irony Travelling On Delhi Metro
In the clip, a woman is deeply engrossed in her laptop so much so that she is totally unaware of her surroundings. Right behind her is an advertisement for an underarm roll-on that reads: “Work-life is imbalanced. Your underarm pH does not have to be.”
The clip was shared on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption: “The ad behind found its perfect audience.” Though short, the video struck a chord because it subtly highlights a reality many employees experience.

Narayana Murthy Advocates For 72 Hour Work Week Again
The video’s theme connects to ongoing conversations about work expectations in India. Recently, Infosys founder Narayana Murthy once again spoke about the value of long working hours and used the example of China’s ‘996’ work culture (9 AM to 9 PM, six days a week). He explained why he believes that “No individual, no community, no country has ever come up without hard work.”
Murthy shared experiences from Catamaran staff visits to Chinese cities to understand the real work culture. “Last year, Catamaran senior and middle-level staff went to China, and they went to tier 1 cities, tier 2 cities and tier 3 cities. They stayed in tier 3 kind of hotels because we wanted to understand the real China. And you know there is a saying there, 9,9,6. You know what it means? 9 AM to 9 PM, 6 days a week. And that is 72 hours a week,” he said during an interview with Republic TV.
Murthy also mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi works for nearly 100 hours a week and said this could serve as an example for young working professionals.
