Paris just got a little more magical. At a cozy cafe in the city’s heart, you can write a letter to your future self and five years from now, it will land in your hands.

Cafe Pli, a one-of-a-kind cafe in Paris,

invites visitors to pour out their hopes, dreams, or even secrets onto paper while sipping on a latte. Once your letter is sealed, the cafe stores it safely, promising delivery on the exact date, five years or twenty years from now.

What is Cafe Pli?

Founded by Genevieve Landsmann in July 2024, this cafe is located at 38 rue du Faubourg du Temple in the city’s trendy 11th arrondissement. It is Europe’s first cafe dedicated entirely to letters to the future, inspired by a similar concept called Nuldam Space in Seoul, South Korea.

Write a letter to yourself

Guests can choose from a variety of stationery items, including envelopes, postcards, pens, pencils, sealing wax, and stickers. Whether writing to yourself or a loved one, you can personalise each letter creatively and thoughtfully.

You are required to seal the envelope using melted wax from a candle. Once sealed, letters are placed in a wall with a niche for every day of the year. Visitors simply select the day they want the letter delivered, and the cafe’s staff ensures it reaches the recipient on that exact date.

Here’s how it works

– Choose your drink or pastry from the cafe menu.
– Next, select a postcard or stationery from the cafe’s collection. You can write a letter to yourself, a loved one or anyone you want.
– Decorate your envelope with stickers, then seal it using wax from a small candle. You can pick from a variety of wax colours and even create your own unique wax stamp seal.
– Once your envelope is ready, go to the cafe’s “post wall” which has special mailboxes for different delivery times: one year, five years, or twenty years.
– Select the box when you want your letter to arrive.
– After that, the cafe staff will safely store it and deliver it on your selected date.

Price of a Letter

Cafe Pli charges differently depending on how long you want your letter to be held.

Up to 1 year, the cost is €15 (approx. Rs 1,500). Up to 5 years, the cost is €25 (approx. Rs 2,400) and up to 20 years, the cost is €45 (approx. Rs 4,300) For those planning a very long-term surprise, even decades into the future.

This includes your choice of a drink and all the stationery, postcards, stickers, pens, and sealing wax you need to write and personalise your letter.

In case of a change of address online, it will cost €10 (approx. Rs 1,000) and for international delivery, outside France, it will cost €4 (approx. Rs 400)

What if Cafe Pli shuts down?

The cafe ensures that your letter is safely stored until it is ready to be sent. If the cafe ever goes out of business, they promise that all letters will still be kept and delivered by a responsible person, so you won’t lose your message.
