Bhubaneswar, Sept 9 (PTI) A fresh low-pressure area is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal on Thursday, bringing heavy rain to several parts of Odisha over the next three days, the IMD said.
The state experienced light to moderate rain at several places on Wednesday.
In its evening bulletin, the IMD said, “A Low Pressure Area is anticipated to take shape across the North Bay of Bengal and surrounding regions on September 10, 2026.” The weather office has issued red, orange and yellow warnings for different districts till September 14, indicating extremely heavy rainfall of more than 20 cm, heavy rainfall of 12-20 cm and 7-11 cm, respectively.
For the next 24 hours, a red warning for extremely heavy rainfall of more than 20 cm has been issued
for Mayurbhanj district.
An orange warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall has been issued for Balasore, Bhadrak and Keonjhar districts on Thursday.
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds, with speeds reaching 40-50 kmph, are also very likely at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts, the IMD said.
A yellow warning for heavy rainfall has been issued for Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Koraput, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri and Khurda districts.
The IMD said squally weather, with winds reaching 40-50 kmph and gusting to 60 kmph, is likely along and off the Odisha coast till September 11.
Sea conditions are expected to remain rough to very rough during the period, prompting the IMD to advise fishermen not to venture into the sea. PTI AAM AAM SOM
