An Indian restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, has accused an Indian family of damaging property and threatening staff after they were asked to stop their children from throwing items inside the dining area. The incident allegedly took place at Bombay Bites HCM, a well-known Indian restaurant in the city’s District 1 tourist area.
The restaurant shared CCTV images and a detailed account of the incident, claiming the situation escalated after staff politely asked the parents to stop their children from creating a disturbance. The allegations have since sparked discussion online about tourist behaviour, parenting, and respecting hospitality workers.
Restaurant Shares Its Account
According to Bombay Bites HCM, the incident happened on June 30.
The restaurant said the children were throwing tissues around the dining area, and staff politely requested the parents to stop them.
The restaurant alleged that instead of cooperating, the family became confrontational. It claimed the children then started throwing plates and glasses, while the parents verbally abused staff members after being approached.
CCTV images shared online appear to show broken items on the floor, restaurant staff cleaning up the mess, and a heated argument between employees and members of the family near the entrance.
Restaurant owner Aishwarya Khanna Singh also claimed the family refused to take responsibility for the incident and instead identified themselves as influencers. She said the restaurant has preserved CCTV footage and other documentation related to the incident.
Explaining the restaurant’s stand, Singh wrote, “Let us be very clear: A restaurant is not a playground. Our staff are not targets for anger or entitlement. And influence does not place anyone above basic manners. Civic sense means teaching children accountability, respecting public property, and understanding that rules exist so everyone can enjoy the space safely and comfortably. When these values are ignored, it affects workers, other guests, and the business as a whole.”
The restaurant added that while it welcomes guests from all backgrounds, it expects respectful behaviour from everyone. It also said damage to property, disorderly conduct and intimidation of staff would not be accepted.
“Hospitality is our job. Basic decency is everyone’s responsibility,” the statement added.
Social Media Reacts
The allegations led to widespread discussion online, with many users supporting the restaurant and stressing the importance of responsible parenting and good behaviour in public places.
A user wrote, “Such obnoxious behavior. As a business owner, I would definitely have this investigated. They touched the waiter aggressively, idk what the criminal code of Vietnam says but battery is punishable in India, not to mention vandalizing your property for absolutely no reason whatsoever.”
Another commented, “Should have called the police and handed them over.”
“Teaching children good behavior is one of the first duties of parenting—do it early, before life teaches them the hard way,” a person said. A different user said, “This incident proves there should be a dedicated chapter of civic sense for Indians.”
A comment read, “Pakka UP Haryana Delhi vale hi hoge.” Someone said, “And raising their children to be the same as them, just look at him telling his kid to do that.”
