Brazilian forward Vinicius Junior put the Selecao ahead in their final Group C fixture against Scotland in the FIFA World Cup 2026 on Thursday at the Miami Stadium in USA to join an illustrious list of names in the storied history of the Canarinho.
Vini became the first Brazilian player to score in all three men’s World Cup group games since Rivaldo and Ronaldo in 2002, as he joined an elite list that also includes the legendary Romario and Jairzinho.
Vinicius opened his account in the tournament with his strike in their group opener against Morocco in the 1-1 stalemate, before adding to his tally with his goal against Haiti in their 3-0 win. Vini completed the incredible feat with his goal against Scotland in their final Group game as he sat
Scot custodian Angus Gunn before slotting the ball into the back of an empty net.
The Real Madrid star thought he had another shortly after, but the strike was chalked off due to a foul in the build up by Vini as he clipped Hendry’s leg before gaining possession of the ball.
Vini, however, ended up doubling his tally in first half added time with a header as he connected well at the far post to send Brazil faithful erupting into wild celebration.
Interestingly, each time a player has managed to net in all three group stage games for Brazil, the Canarinho have went on to win the World Cup up until now.
Matheus Cunha added the side’s third of the night following some exceptional bit of work by Bruno Guitars, who set his temamate up for a simple finish after a bit of fancy footwork.
The biggest ovation of the day, however, was reserved for Brazilian superstar Neymar, who made his return to the Selecao for the first time since October 2023 to put the final touches on the win.
