Rahul Arunoday Banerjee’s death has taken a serious turn after his wife filed a complaint with Odisha Police. The development has intensified scrutiny around the circumstances of the actor’s drowning during a television shoot.
Wife Files Complaint, FIR Registered
Nearly a week after the tragic passing of the 43-year-old actor, his wife, Priyanka Sarkar, has approached the police seeking a thorough investigation into the incident. Officials from the Talasari Marine police station confirmed that an FIR was registered on Friday night following her complaint. According to police officials, the investigation will now examine all possible angles. They told PTI that they will look into whether there was any criminal conspiracy involved and gather evidence before reaching a conclusion.
What Happened At Talsari Beach
Rahul Arunoday Banerjee allegedly drowned while shooting for a Bengali television serial at Talsari beach in Odisha’s Balasore district. The incident took place on March 29 during an outdoor shoot for the show Bholey Baba Par Karega.
The actor reportedly slipped into the seawater while filming. When he did not return, concern grew among the crew members. He was later rescued and taken to a hospital in Digha, where doctors declared him dead. The sudden nature of the incident has raised multiple questions about on-ground safety measures during the shoot.
Industry Body Flags Negligence
The case has also drawn attention from the West Bengal Motion Picture Artists’ Forum, which has formally raised concerns about the circumstances of the shoot.
The forum lodged a complaint at the Regent Park police station in Kolkata against the producers of the serial. Kolkata Police treated this as a “Zero FIR”, allowing the case to be transferred to the appropriate jurisdiction. The complaint alleges that the shoot was conducted in a “negligent manner” that may have endangered lives.
In its official statement, the forum said, “On March 29, during the shooting of television serial ‘Bholey Baba Par Karega’ at Talsari near Digha, our colleague and forum member, actor Rahul Arunoday Banerjee, tragically passed away due to an accidental drowning,.”
It further added, “In this regard, the forum, on behalf of its members, sought legal advice to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the incident. Accordingly, a formal letter was sent to the production house…. on April 1 seeking clarification,”
Investigation Now Underway
With both the family and the industry body demanding answers, the focus is now firmly on accountability. The FIR filed in Odisha and the Zero FIR registered in Kolkata could lead to a wider probe into safety lapses during the shoot. Authorities have made it clear that no conclusion will be drawn until all evidence is examined. For now, the case remains under investigation, with multiple questions still unanswered about what exactly went wrong that day at Talsari beach.
