Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the state-of-the-art Mumbai International Cruise Terminal (MICT) on Saturday (September 20). This mega terminal is slated to put Mumbai on the map as a global cruise hub, which will help boost tourism and the maritime economy.
The MICT spans over 415,000 square feet, making it India’s largest cruise terminal. It is also designed to accommodate 1 million passengers annually. It has been developed under the ‘Cruise Bharat Mission’ to enhance India’s maritime infrastructure and offer a seamless travel experience for tourists.

What’s So Special About The Cruise Terminal?
The cruise terminal is situated near prominent Mumbai landmarks like Colaba and the Gateway of India. It is set to become a major tourist hotspot, offering the public a unique opportunity to experience water-based travel.
The project, worth Rs 556 crore, was launched by the shipping minister of the financial capital, Sarbananda Sonowal, in April this year. The project has been developed in a partnership between Ballard Pier Port Pvt Ltd and JM Baxi and Co, supported by a 30-year concession agreement.
The terminal is capable of ferrying around 10,000 to 15,000 passengers on a daily basis. It also has the capacity to accommodate five cruise ships in a single berth, with up to 300 metres in length and 11 metres in draft. It is also equipped with 72 check-in and immigration counters, ensuring that travellers face no inconvenience.
Sonowal had earlier said the project aligns with PM Modi’s vision of transforming India into a global cruise hub, by attracting international tourists and contributing to the nation’s economic growth.
PM Modi’s Schedule
The Prime Minister is also slated to visit Gujarat on Saturday, where he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of multiple development projects worth over Rs 34,200 crore in the ‘Samudra se Samriddhi’ event in Bhavnagar.
He will also inaugurate a new container terminal at Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port in Kolkata, cargo handling facilities at Paradip Port, and the Tuna Tekra Multi-Cargo Terminal in Gujarat. The PM is also expected to inaugurate coastal protection works including sea-walls and revetments at Chennai Port and a multi-purpose cargo berth and Green Bio-Methanol Plant at Deendayal Port, Kandla.
