Chester-le-Street, Jul 1 (PTI) Half-centuries from skipper Shreyas Iyer (68) and Abhishek Sharma (59) took India to 189 for 6 against England in the first T20I here on Wednesday.
Iyer and Abhishek also put on a robust 82 runs for the third wicket after India slipped to 6 for 2 early on with Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan falling for cheap.
Iyer struck 68 off 47 balls with six fours and a six to record his first fifty as India T20I skipper, while Abhishek smacked six fours and four sixes to score 59 off 24 balls.
Shivam Dube scored a vital 42 not out late in the innings.
For England, Saqib Mahmood took 3/33.
