James Cameron-directed Avatar: Fire and Ash, the third installment in the critically acclaimed Avatar franchise, hit the theatres in India on December 19. Its box office run in the country has been slower
than expected. While the Hollywood sci-fi spectacle continues to perform strongly on the global stage thanks to the holiday season, it has been facing tough competition in India from Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar.
Despite the hurdles, Avatar 3 has crossed an important milestone in its first week. The film entered the Rs 100 crore club in India on its seventh day. According to early estimates from Sacnilk, Avatar: Fire and Ash earned around Rs 13.50 crore on December 25 across all languages. The film’s total earnings in the country now stand at Rs 109.65 crore. The Christmas holiday provided a much-needed boost to collections. Globally, the film has grossed over Rs 5000 crore.
On Thursday, Avatar: Fire and Ash had an overall 56.51% English occupancy and a 44.19% Hindi (3D) occupancy. The film had an overall 36.06% Telugu (3D) occupancy, whereas 41.94% Tamil (3D) occupancy.

Will There Be More Avatar Sequels?
While speaking to Deadline, the director confirmed that the third Avatar film will close the story arc of the first three movies. However, he did not provide much detail on the fourth and fifth installments of the franchise. “It’s hard for me to think about that right now,” he said. “I always use the metaphor that if a woman is in labour, at the moment she’s crowning, you don’t ask her about her next children.” Avatar 4 is expected to premiere on December 21, 2029, while Avatar 5 will release on December 19, 2031.
