Chandigarh, Apr 3 (PTI) Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini stressed the need to strengthen sanitation and drainage systems in rural areas on Friday and directed officials to ensure regular and time-bound cleaning of village ponds and waste water channels.
Chairing a review meeting of the Haryana Pond and Waste Water Management Authority, Saini said ponds should remain free from foul smells, and waterlogging in residential areas should be avoided.
The chief minister instructed that cleaning, desilting and drainage work be carried out under a standard operating procedure to ensure transparency and quality.
He also called for the use of modern technology in pond construction and modernisation, along with the beautification of surroundings of the pond.
In a bid to enhance the water flow, Saini suggested the use of solar pumps and warned of strict action against negligence in maintaining these systems.
He further directed panchayat secretaries to monitor the condition of ponds regularly and called for an increase in sanitation staff. A total of 6,538 ponds have been identified under the action plan, with 2,758 projects approved, officials said.
