An extremely successful debut with Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na (2008) made Imran Khan a household name, but at the very beginning of his career, Imran was met with disappointment when he was dropped from multiple films following his movies receiving lukewarm responses. Recently, in an interview, Imran Khan recalled how he was devastated after things didn’t align for him in Chennai Express, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Delhi 6, and Vikramaditya Motwane’s Bhavesh Joshi.
Speaking to HT, Imran revealed how he was dropped from Bhavesh Joshi Superhero because his 2013 film Gori Tere Pyaar Mein, co-starring Kareena Kapoor Khan, failed at the box office. “In the aftermath of Gori Tere Pyaar Mein, I got dropped from the film. So that was also out of my hands, out of my control.
The film turned out well. It’s one of those films that is unique and original; somebody has tried to push the boundaries of what we normally get to do, and I appreciate that,” he recalled.
Imran also recalled how he was in conversation with Rohit Shetty for Chennai Express, but things didn’t materialise. “We had a couple of conversations about it. But between us, we figured that we were not in sync creatively. His narration was hilarious, and the film has turned out to be hilarious. But I don’t believe that I would’ve been correct for it. I saw what he was going for; I thought it was funny. I don’t think I was right for it, which is the conversation that we had, and I said, ‘Listen, I don’t see us syncing.’ Shah Rukh Khan was a better choice. I don’t think I could top Shah Rukh,” Imran said.
Imran Khan recently made a comeback with Happy Patel. Happy Patel, which released on Friday, is a quirky spy comedy and reunites Imran with Das after Delhi Belly and with Palkar after Katti Batti. In the movie, Imran plays Milind Morea, an international supermodel. He and Das planned to keep his cameo a secret to surprise audiences, but the news got out quickly.
Imran admitted he was surprised to see himself in the trailer and didn’t expect so much attention, especially since he hadn’t tried to stay relevant during his break. He said the attention was much more than he imagined, and usually people say you have to work hard to stay in the public eye, but he hadn’t done that.
