Earlier this month, Punjab faced its worst floods, submerging villages, washing away homes, and displacing countless families. Many continue to struggle with the immense challenge of rebuilding their lives. Amidst this crisis, several artists and organisations stepped forward to offer support.
One notable gesture came from singer and rapper AP Dhillon, who visited a flood-affected village in Punjab. His interactions with a local family struck an emotional chord.
AP Dhillon’s Emotional Visit
The singer, in collaboration with Initiators of Change, pledged to rebuild several homes destroyed by the disaster. During his visit, he spent time with the villagers, listening to their stories and understanding the challenges they continue to face.

One particularly moving moment came when he sat with an elderly couple. In the video, Dhillon is seen emotional as he tells the elderly woman, “Bahut daler dil hai biji aap (You have a very brave heart, mother).” She replied, “Daler banke hi putt reha janda ae (One has to remain strong to keep going).”

Messages For AP Dhillon
The heartfelt exchange struck a deep chord on social media, with the video quickly going viral and earning widespread admiration for AP Dhillon’s genuine and humble approach.
One user commented, “Proud of you, brother.”
Another shared, “And at that moment he realised what truly matters.”
“Aww, this is the genuine reaction I have ever seen,” someone else shared while a person called him the greatest, saying, “This is the only reason he’s a GOAT.”
Punjab’s Worst Flood Since 1988
The floods, triggered by intense monsoon rains in the upper catchment areas, left all 23 districts officially declared flood-affected.
More than 1,900 villages were submerged, crops on 4.30 lakh acres of farmland were destroyed, and over 51 lives were lost. Thousands of families, especially farmers who are the backbone of Punjab’s economy, were hit hard. It stands as the most destructive natural disaster the state has faced since 1988
Government’s Response
To assess the devastation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a review meeting with senior Punjab officials last week. Following this, he announced a financial package of Rs 1,600 crore for the state in addition to the Rs 12,000 crore that had already been allocated.
The Prime Minister’s Office confirmed that the Centre would also advance the second installment of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF). Relief under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme was also announced. PM Modi further interacted with teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) during his visit.
