New Delhi, Jul 25 (PTI) Delhi saw a slight increase in the maximum and minimum temperatures on Saturday, even as parts of the city received very light to light rain throughout the day.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has, meanwhile, forecast very light to light rain to continue for the next couple of days, with moderate rain possible in the subsequent days.
Safdarjung, representative of the city’s weather, recorded a minimum temperature of 27.7 degrees Celsius, 0.4 degree above the normal and with a 0.4 degree increase from a day before. The maximum temperature was logged at 36 degrees Celsius, 1.1 degrees above the normal and 1.4 degrees more than Friday.
Meanwhile, Palam recorded a minimum temperature of 25.2 degrees Celsius, a 0.2
degree increase from a day before and a maximum of 33.8 degrees Celsius, 0.9 degree more than a day before.
Lodhi Road recorded a minimum of 27 degrees Celsius, 0.2 degree more than Friday’s minimum; Ayanagar recorded a minimum of 24.2 degrees, a 1.1 degrees rise from the day before.
According to data from the IMD, scattered rain was recorded in parts of the city in the intervening night of Friday and Saturday, as well as throughout the day on Saturday.
Safdarjung recorded 1 mm of rain between 2.30 am and 5.30 am on Saturday, but no rain after that till 5.30 pm on Saturday. Other weather stations also recorded light rain.
Palam recorded 0.4 mm of rain at the same time and 2.2 mm of rain between 2.30 pm and 5.30 pm on Saturday; Lodhi Road recorded 1.9 mm of rain between 11.30 pm on Friday and 2.30 am on Saturday; Najafgarh recorded 0.5 mm of rain in the early hours of Saturday, between 5.30 am and 8.30 am.
Janakpuri and Narayana recorded 1 and 2.5 mm of rain respectively between 2.30 pm and 5.30 pm on Saturday.
IMD has forecast very light to light rain to continue on Sunday and Monday.
Meanwhile, a yellow alert has been issued by the IMD for the coming Tuesday and Wednesday, warning of moderate rain.
“There is a possibility of very light rain to light rain at isolated places accompanied by surface winds of speed 20-30 kmph, gusting to 40 kmph on Sunday and Monday,” an IMD official said.
According to the IMD forecast, the maximum is likely to be around 33-35 degrees Celsius on Sunday. The minimum temperature is likely to be around 25-27 degrees Celsius on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the air quality index (AQI) of the city remained in the satisfactory category on Saturday, and the 24-hour-average AQI was recorded at 73 (satisfactory) at 9 am, as compared to the 24-hour average AQI of 70 (satisfactory) recorded at the same time on Friday, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
As per CPCB standards, an AQI of 0-50 is considered ‘good’, 51-100 ‘satisfactory’, 101-200 ‘moderate’, 201-300 ‘poor’, 301-400 ‘very poor’, and 401-500 ‘severe’. PTI AHD PRK
