Bengaluru Municipal Chief Sets December Deadline To Complete Geddalahalli Railway Vent Work

Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao has directed officials to complete the long-pending Geddalahalli Railway Vent work near the metropolis’s Sai Layout by December, stressing the urgency to address recurring flood issues in the area.

During his inspection visit on Friday across various locations in the KR Puram limits of Bengaluru East City Corporation, Rao noted that the current railway vent near Sai Layout is too narrow, which hampers the smooth flow of rainwater and ultimately leads to frequent flooding during heavy rains, as per the GBA press release.

To mitigate the issue, a project worth Rs 13.36 crore has been initiated to install two box structures measuring 6 meters in width and 4.5 meters in height under

the railway track. The Commissioner emphasised that after the installation of the concrete boxes, the box-pushing process should be expedited to meet the December deadline.

Sai Layout in Horamavu, home to over 400 families, witnesses frequent flooding during monsoon as the long-delayed widening of the railway vent in Geddalahalli is still incomplete.

In Sai Layout, the Commissioner also identified garbage dumping “black spots” and instructed Solid Waste Management authorities to clear the sites immediately and prevent further dumping. He also directed that CCTV cameras installed in such areas be repaired and maintained to monitor and deter illegal dumping.

Rao further inspected the white-topping work along the 5 km Hennur–Bagalur Road, where 1 km has been completed. He instructed B-SMILE officials to speed up the work without hampering vehicular traffic, ensure dust-free roads, and maintain cleanliness throughout the stretch.

The Commissioner also visited Blessing Garden Road, where widening work is in progress—from an existing 8–9 meters to 24 meters. Of the total 1 km stretch, 500 meters has been completed. Rao urged officials to complete the remaining portion on priority.

Rao also inspected Horamavu Junction constructed under the Suraksha 75 initiative and announced that similar projects will be reviewed across all city corporation zones.
