Lovlina Borgohain entered her name in the history books on Saturday (August 1) by becoming the third Indian boxer, after Vijender Singh and MC Mary Kom, to win medals at the Olympics, Commonwealth Games and Asian Games.

Lovlina, the Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist, won her maiden Commonwealth Games medal on Saturday, securing silver after losing to Australia’s Emma-Sue Greentree via split 1-4 decision in the women’s 75kg final.
Vijender, who was the first Indian boxer to win an Olympic medal, finished his career with one Olympic, three Commonwealth Games and two Asian Games medals, while Mary Kom won one Olympic, one Commonwealth Games and two Asian Games medals.
Meanwhile, Lovlina has an Olympic
bronze, an Asian Games silver and a Commonwealth Games silver to her name.

Lovlina’s silver on Saturday is India’s seventh medal in boxing at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Before her, Jaismine Lamboria, Preeti Pawar, Sakshi Chaudhary, Priya Ghanghas and Arundhati Choudhary won gold medals for India and Jadumani Singh bagged the silver in men’s 55kg category.

India have won five gold medals in boxing at CWG 2026 so far, and they could add three more yellow metals to their tally. Sachin Siwach, Ankush Panghal and Narender Berwal will feature in the gold medal bouts of 60kg, 80kg and +90kg respectively.
So far only Jadumani Singh has managed to win a medal for India in men’s boxing at ongoing Commonwealth Games.
Jadumani lost a hard-fought contest 0-5 against Australia’s Jye Dixon. After a bit of struggle against his taller opponent, Jadumani rallied to win the first round 3-2.
However, Dixon then showed his wares and fought back brilliantly to take the second round by an 5-0 unanimous verdict.
The Aussie used the momentum to edge out his opponent and end India’s golden run in the boxing ring.
