Ahead of the NEET re-examination, the Centre is ramping up preparations to ensure a smooth, secure, and transparent examination, following the irregularities that surfaced during the May 3 exam.
The NEET re-examination is scheduled to be held on June 21, with the government and authorities working in sync to ensure the exam is conducted in a flawless manner.
On June 12, Cabinet Secretary Dr TV Somanathan assessed the preparedness of the National Testing Agency (NTA) — which is entrusted with responsibility to conduct standardized entrance examinations — during a meeting with its Director General, Abhishek Singh.
During the review, Dr Somanathan discussed coordination, security arrangements, and measures to maintain confidence in one of the country’s
biggest entrance tests.
‘Transparent, Secure, Well-Coordinated’
During the review meeting, Dr Somanathan asserted the need for a transparent, secure, and well-coordinated conduct of NEET re-exam, stressing the Centre and states were working closely to ensure the exam is held smoothly.
Issuing a stark warning against any attempt to disturb the process, he said: “The full might and weight of the law will fall on any person trying in any manner to distort, disrupt or tamper with the integrity or smooth conduct of the re-examination”.
On June 1, the Cabinet Secretary took stock of arrangements with Secretaries of the Central Government and stakeholders. Another meeting was held on June 4 with Chief Secretaries of state governments to review readiness in view of the upcoming exam.
NEET Controversy: A Quick Recap
The NEET-UG 2026 exam was cancelled on May 12, following widespread allegations of a paper leak for over 2.27 million aspirants. Investigations brought to light significant overlaps between a “guess paper” and the actual exam, sparking massive controversy.
At present, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is investigating the case, leading to multiple arrests across states.
