Walking through a car park in Australia, Devang Sethi, a content creator on Instagram, noticed something unusual. He saw a small piece of paper stuck to a parked car. Curiosity piqued, and Sethi picked up the paper to read it and discovered something remarkable.
The note explained that someone had accidentally hit the left side of a car. But instead of fleeing the scene, the person had written down their name, contact number and even details about their third-party insurance company so the owner could claim their damages.
What Was On The Note?
“Sorry for hitting the left side of your car’s door. Here’s my contact,” read the note.
Sethi said, “In India, this would never happen,” and added, “If someone hits another person’s car, they just run. Here,
someone took responsibility.”
He also noted that the person had even written down his own vehicle’s registration number. Appreciating the thoughtful gesture, Sethi said it was remarkable how the person left their contact details, allowing the car’s owner to claim damages from the individual responsible. “A country’s greatness comes from its people,” he said, ending his reel.

What seems like a simple act of leaving a note is actually a window into the culture and character of a nation. It’s a small gesture, but it says a lot about trust, honesty and accountability, says Sethi.
How Did The Internet React?
The reel has so far garnered nearly 33,000 views and a few people have even commented, sharing their reactions and personal experiences.
One user said that such behaviour is common in Australia, adding that people generally act honestly in these situations. The user explained that the person responsible for the accident “will eventually be paying the excess fee to the insurance company” for repairing their own vehicle, while the affected party “can get their car repaired for free from that person’s insurance company as they were not at fault.”
Another commenter contrasted the incident with a recent experience in Gurugram. The user recalled how, while parking a Hyundai, the owner hit a Creta but showed no concern at all. According to the user, the driver did not even step out to inspect the damage to either car and instead calmly sat inside his vehicle. The user added that such indifference has become common, with people choosing to ignore the problem rather than take responsibility.
One more user summed up the sentiment bluntly, stating that in India, people “will kill each other over a damage, let alone settling damages.”
