In a tragic incident, at least 15 people have been killed and two others have been injured after a tempo traveller crashed into a truck in Rajasthan’s Jodhpur on Sunday.
The accident took place on the Bharat Mala Expressway near Matoda village in Jodhpur’s Falodi. Police teams, along with local residents and passing motorists, carried out rescue operations to retrieve the bodies and assist the injured.
According to police, all 18 deceased, belonging to the same family, were residents of the Sursagar area in Jodhpur and were returning from the Kolayat temple in Bikaner after offering prayers at the Kapil Muni Ashram.
The injured were initially taken to a nearby hospital and later shifted to Jodhpur via a green corridor for advanced treatment.
All
the bodies have been kept in the mortuary of the Osian government hospital.
Jodhpur Police Commissioner Om Prakash Mathuradas Mathur visited the hospital to review the treatment arrangements. He said that arrangements have been made to ensure that the injured receive proper treatment.
“A road accident occurred in which people lost their lives, which is very tragic. However, arrangements have been made to ensure that the injured receive proper treatment…” he said as quoted by news agency IANS.

Rescue and relief operations are underway as authorities are working to identify the victims and inform their families.
President, PM Express Grief
President Droupadi Murmu condoled the loss of lives and prayed for the swift recovery of those who have been injured.
“The news of the deaths of many people in the road accident that occurred in Phalodi, Rajasthan, is extremely heartbreaking. I express my condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones in this tragedy and pray for the swift recovery of those who have been injured,” the Rashtrapati Bhawan said in a post on X.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed sorrow over the incident and announced an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh to the next of kin of each deceased and Rs 50,000 for those injured.
“Saddened by the loss of lives due to a mishap in Phalodi district, Rajasthan. My thoughts are with the affected people and their families during this difficult time. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured. An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000,” the Prime Minister’s Office said in a post on X.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma condoled the loss of lives in the accident and ordered the district administration to ensure proper treatment for all the injured.
“The loss of lives in the road accident in the Matoda area of Phalodi is extremely tragic and heart-rending. My condolences are with the bereaved families. Instructions have been given to the district administration officials to ensure proper treatment for all the injured. I pray to the Lord to grant peace to the departed souls and provide speedy recovery to the injured,” he said in a post on X.

He also spoke with the district collector, SP, and other officials over the phone, directing them to ensure that the injured are immediately transported to hospitals via green corridors and receive the best possible medical treatment.
Former Chief Minister and Congress leader Ashok Gehlot also expressed sorrow over the incident, saying, “I just received the news from Patna about the road accident in Matoda, Falodi, where 18 people have lost their lives. I am deeply saddened to hear this. I pray that God grants the departed souls peace, gives strength to their families, and ensures the injured recover soon.”

Last month, twenty-six people were burnt alive when a sleeper bus caught fire in Jaisalmer. The fire broke out due to a short circuit in the AC. There was no exit gate in the bus. Following the accident, the transport department launched an intensive checking campaign against illegal modification and violation of permit norms.
