Belly and Conrad’s story isn’t over yet! Hours after the premiere of The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3’s final episode on Wednesday, September 17, Prime Video confirmed that this was not the end of their story. The streamer announced that the beloved series will return for one last instalment, this time as a feature-length movie.
“There is another big milestone left in Belly’s journey, and I thought only a movie could give it its proper due,” Jenny Han, on whose novel trilogy the show is based, shared in a statement, as quoted by The Hollywood Reporter. She added, “I’m so grateful to Prime Video for continuing to support my vision for this story and for making it possible to share this final chapter with the fans.” Jenny Han is set to direct
the movie and write it alongside Sarah Kucserka, which will wrap up Belly’s story.
What Will Be The Story Of The Summer I Turned Pretty Movie?
The big announcement came after an 11-episode season of The Summer I Turned Pretty filled with love triangles, heartbreak and personal growth. Season 3 of the coming-of-age romantic drama ended with Belly (Lola Tung) choosing Conrad (Christopher Briney) after years of complicated feelings and relationships, including a four-year-long romance with his younger brother Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno).
The finale, titled At Last, ended with Belly and Conrad’s return to Cousins Beach, hinting at new beginnings. A voiceover said, “And just as it always had, the beach house held a million promises of summer. And what just might be.” Fans of the show noted that Belly’s wedding, as per the epilogue of Jenny Han’s third book, We’ll Always Have Summer, was never shown in the show. While Prime Video has not shared details on the upcoming movie, fans are speculating that it might feature a wedding at Cousins Beach.
Moreover, Jenny also teased a return to Cousins in the closing credits of the show, leading fans to speculate that the movie will show Belly and Conrad’s journey to the altar. It might also wrap up the storylines of Jeremiah, Steven (Sean Kaufman), Laurel (Jackie Chung), and Denise (Isabella Briggs).
When Will The Summer I Turned Pretty Movie Premiere?
Except for the release of a new The Summer I Turned Pretty movie, Prime Video has not revealed any plot details or a release date. Since the film has just been greenlit by the streamer, it may take some time for Jenny Han to develop a suitable script and then begin shooting. Still, fans can expect a shorter wait than the two-year gap between seasons 2 and 3.
