Passenger Opens Unattended Bag At Goa Airport, Finds Bundle Of Rs 500 Notes, But Internet Calls Him ‘Irresponsible’

What would you do if you found an unattended bag at any public place? Mostly, people would ignore it, thinking it’s none of their business, or simply hand it over to the authorities. But one traveller,

who was flying from Goa to Mumbai, handled the situation quite differently. Curiosity got the better of them and they decided to open the bag and check what was inside.

In a Reddit post, the person revealed that the incident occurred on November 3 at Dabolim Airport. The passenger, who was waiting near a boarding gate with family for their evening flight, noticed a black designer Michael Kors bag next to their seat. “I found a black MK bag on the seat next to me. We were sitting there for 45 minutes and no one was there,” the user shared.

Airline Staff Asked The Person To Contact Airport Security

At first, the traveller assumed the owner would return. But when no one did, they informed the staff at the IndiGo counter, but they asked the person to contact airport security without taking any action themselves. Unsure of what to do, the person decided to look into the bag.

There Was A Bundle Of Rs 500 Notes, Some Change And A Lipstick Inside

They mentioned, “Any normal person would have just called security, but I thought, it’s airport. The bag is already inside, there are very few chances of it having something bad in it. So I thought maybe I will find an ID inside and contact the person. So I opened it. Inside was just cash. 500rs notes. A bundle of it, some change and a lipstick.”

The person continued, “At this point, I cursed my parents for teaching me too much honesty. So I just closed the bag, went to the security and handed the bag to them.” Officials then counted the cash at the conveyor belt and estimated the amount to be above Rs 50,000. “ I just hope that the person who thinks that only money and a lipstick is all she needs to conquer the world gets it back. Also, what would you have done, guys, in my situation?” the traveller asked in the post.

Internet Asked The Person, “Why Would You Open Up The Bag Of An Unknown Person?”

The post immediately caught the attention of other users of the platform, who reacted to the traveller’s decision to check what was inside the bag, with one saying, “I’d inform the security, that’s it. I’d never dare touch an unattended bag like that coz I’m way too paranoid. What if it’s a trap set by the authorities (or rather, corrupt officers to scam/harass me)? What if it’s a prank and I’d embarrass myself on camera? What if the owner returned at the moment I touched it and raised an alarm and everyone would take my video and make it viral and I’d get arrested? And many more such questions would pop up in my mind.”

Another said, “What if it’s left by a criminal and you touching it will turn you in as the criminal?”

“Why would you open up the bag of an unknown person? First thing, a handbag is personal. Secondly, you don’t know what’s inside the bag? What if it were an explosive? You put your life and the lives of people around you in danger. That was irresponsible,” a different person shared.

“Good, you returned it. There are security cameras all around and you could inadvertently be caught up in a theft charge,” another person mentioned.
