Tremors were felt in several parts of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday after an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.9 struck the valley, triggering brief panic among residents. The tremors, which lasted a few seconds, occurred at 9:46 pm.

Tremors were also felt in Delhi-NCR, Punjab, and other adjoining areas. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 175 km, with the epicenter located near Darawan, at coordinates 36.52°N latitude and 71.01°E longitude.

A resident from Delhi said, “When the earthquake struck, I was sitting in the room, and I felt the bed shaking, and when I looked up, the fan was shaking too.” When I came out, I saw that the people around me were also scared…”
“I felt a strong jolt, which lasted for a few seconds,” said Baldev Chand, a Chandigarh resident who lives in a flat on the second floor, according to a PTI report.

Ajay Kumar, who lives on the 11th floor of a residential society in Zirakpur, Punjab, said, “The tremors lasted for a few seconds. We thought of rushing down but the tremors stopped soon.”
