Tanvi Sharma advanced to the semifinals of the Syed Modi International Super 300 with a commanding victory over Hong Kong’s Lo Sin Yan Happy in straight games. Tanvi, who is 16 years old and previously
defeated former world champion Nozomi Okuhara from Japan, took just 38 minutes to win 21-13, 21-19. She will now face fifth-seeded Hina Akechi of Japan, who defeated third-seed Sung Shuo Yun 21-8, 21-15 in another quarterfinal.
In the women’s singles, Unnati Hooda overcame her compatriot Rakshitha Sree Santosh R in a tough quarterfinal match, winning 21-15, 13-21, 21-16. Unnati will meet fourth-seeded Neslihan Arin of Turkey in the semifinals, after Arin beat India’s Isharani Baruah 21-19, 13-21, 21-15.
In the men’s singles, Kidambi Srikanth progressed to the semifinals after his opponent Priyanshu Rajawat retired with the score at 21-14, 11-4. Srikanth will face Mithun Manjunath, who defeated Manraj Singh 21-18, 21-13 in their quarterfinal match.
Singapore’s top-seeded Jason Teh was ousted in the quarterfinals, losing 19-21, 21-12, 20-22 to Minoru Koga of Japan. Koga will play against Hong Kong’s Jason Gunawan in the semifinals.
In the women’s doubles, top seeds Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly reached the semifinals by defeating fifth seeds Bengisu Ercetin and Nazlican Inci 21-15, 21-16. Treesa will also compete in the mixed doubles semifinal alongside Hariharan Amsakarunan after their victory over Australia’s Andika Ramadiansyah and Nozomi Shimizu, 21-18, 21-14 in the quarterfinals.
