England cricketer Liam Livingstone believes that Virat Kohli doesn’t ‘want the life he lives in India’ where he’s the centre of attention. Livingstone, who played with Kohli at the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2025, also testified to the Indian legend’s ability to switch his demeanor on and off the field.
Kohli, his wife Anushka Sharma, and their two children shifted to London in February 2024, and though he has family and several properties in India, he lives predominantly in the UK. Most cricketers in India struggle to step out of their homes and hotels because they get drowned by their supporters, and Kohli is the most popular among them all, which has always been cited as the reason for the decision.
“He was amazing. I’d always played against
Virat, and he’s always laughing,” Livingstone said on the Stick To Cricket podcast. “If you want to have a go at someone, he’ll have a go back at you. But on the field, he’s ultra-competitive. As soon as he steps over that line, he’s a different person. But, off the field, he is a really nice, chill guy, loves spending time with his family. Very chilled out guy. Almost like he doesn’t want the life he lives in India. He doesn’t really want the eye on him all the time. He is a genuinely nice guy. When he gets out onto the pitch, he is the most competitive player I have seen.”
Livingstone on RCB’s revolution
Livingstone has now moved from RCB to Sunrisers Hyderabad, but saw the revolution carried out by director of cricket Mo Bobat and head coach Andy Flower in the last two years.
“Mo and Andy went in and changed the way he played. They were brave enough to do that,” Livingstone revealed. “They asked him to be a bit more aggressive, hit more sixes, and keep going with that aggression in the power play. You see the way he plays now in the power play, and he’s way more aggressive than he used to be. Even against spin, he’s playing more shots than he ever did,” Livingstone added.
