Mumbai is set to operationalise parts of two new metro lines by December 31.
According to officials from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), a section of Metro Line 9, between Dahisar East and Kashigaon, and a stretch of Metro Line 2B, between Diamond Garden and Mandale, will begin functioning by the end of this month.
Mumbai Metro-9 is red line: The route
Mumbai Metro Line 9 spans approximately 13.58 km with 11.386 km elevated and 2.195 km underground, as part of the Red Line connected to Metro Lines 7 and 7A. Its stations: Dahisar East, Pandurang Wadi, Miragaon (Amar Palace), Kashigaon (Zankar Company) (Thane district), Sai Baba Nagar Meditiya Nagar (Deepak Hospital), Shahid Bhagat Singh Garden (Maxus Mall), Subhash Chandra Bose Stadium, MBMC Sports Complex,
Indralok Station. It connects to Metro 7 (Dahisar East to Andheri East), Metro 2A (Dahisar West to DN Nagar), with future extensions connecting to Metro 3 (Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ underground). Which section is opening? Phase 1 (Dahisar-Kashigaon) is expected to open by end of 2025. The full line is projected to be completed by late 2026.
How Mumbai Metro-9 will ease your commute
The Metro is a fast transit option for Mira Bhayandar residents, especially via Dahisar East and interchanges. Smooth interchange at Dahisar East enables quick access to Andheri, Bandra, and south Mumbai.
Mira Road to Andheri commute, which currently takes 1.5 hours by road, may take under 50 minutes using Metro 9-7-2A.

WEH vs Mumbai Metro-9: What do numbers say?
The WEH sees 2.2 million to 3 million vehicles per day at certain points. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has projected 8.47 lakh passengers daily for Mumbai Metro-9, saying the number is likely to go up to 11.12 lakh daily by 2031. It is fully elevated, 23.643 km from DN Nagar (Andheri West) to Mandale (Mankhurd East). It has 20 elevated stations along the corridor
