The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has intensified its investigation into the suicide car bomb blast near Delhi’s Red Fort, transporting one of the arrested suspects, Dr Shaheen Saeed from Lucknow, to Haryana’s Faridabad for on-site questioning, news agency ANI reported on Friday, citing sources familiar with the probe.
Shaheen is among seven individuals arrested in connection with the November 10 explosion, which killed 15 people and left several others wounded.
Investigators suspect that Shaheen, along with the other detained suspects, played a significant role in orchestrating and carrying out the terror attack, one of the most extensive counter-terror challenges the agency has dealt with in recent months.
Shaheen was arrested on November
20 along with three others, Dr Muzammil Shakeel Ganai from Pulwama, Dr Adeel Ahmed Rather from Anantnag, and Mufti Irfan Ahmad Wagay from Shopian.
All four had been taken into NIA custody in Srinagar after production orders were issued by a district sessions judge at Delhi’s Patiala House Court.
Quoting sources, the report mentioned that Shaheen was brought to Faridabad to help investigators reconstruct elements of the terror plot.
The investigators had recovered a massive cache of explosives, estimated at nearly 2,900 kg, from the area shortly before the bombing. The Hyundai i20 car used in the suicide attack was also traced to a local dealer in Faridabad.
Her visit was particularly aimed at verifying information the agency had obtained during the interrogation of other arrested suspects, including Soyab, a resident of Dhauj in Faridabad.
The report claimed that Soyab is alleged to have sheltered the suicide bomber, Umar Un Nabi, providing him with refuge and logistical assistance ahead of the attack.
During questioning, Soyab reportedly admitted that he “not only harboured Umar but also extended logistical support to facilitate the terrorist’s movements ahead of the attack.”
The NIA has said that evidence gathered so far has reinforced its understanding of the operational network behind the bombing.
The case continues to expand, with multiple leads under scrutiny and further searches being carried out in coordination with state police forces across different regions, ANI reported.
Earlier, the agency arrested two other accused, Amir Rashid Ali, in whose name the explosive-laden vehicle was registered, and Jasir Bilal Wani alias Danish, who allegedly provided technical help to the bomber.
Investigators have also established that Umar, who died in the blast, was a Pulwama resident and an Assistant Professor in the General Medicine Department at Al Falah University in Faridabad.
The agency continues its multi-state investigation with support from Delhi Police, Jammu and Kashmir Police, Haryana Police, Uttar Pradesh Police and other security agencies, as efforts intensify to dismantle the entire module behind the deadly attack.
