The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Sunday (February 8) shared visuals of chairman Mohsin Naqvi’s meeting with his Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) counterpart Aminul Islam. The duo, alongside other high-ranking PCB officials, met at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium in what is being touted as a show of ‘solidarity’.

The meeting comes amid Pakistan’s threat of boycotting the 2026 T20 World Cup match against India, scheduled for February 15 in Colombo. The order came from the Pakistani government on social media, while the PCB
and Naqvi have remained silent on the issue.
The Pakistani government has said one of the reasons for the order was to make a stand for Bangladesh. The ICC had removed the latter from the World Cup roster — Scotland replaced Bangladesh — after the BCB refused to let the team travel to India. It cited security reasons, which the ICC rejected.
Meanwhile, CNN-News18 has reported that the ICC Deputy Chairman Imran Khawaja also arrived in Lahore on Saturday evening ahead of another crucial meeting with Naqvi, to intensify efforts to resolve the India–Pakistan standoff.
According to a PCB spokesperson, the meeting is pre-scheduled, with formal negotiations between the ICC and PCB set to begin at 7 pm. Sources indicated that the talks are part of the ICC’s backchannel attempts to persuade Pakistan to play its scheduled round-robin match against India.
Islam is also expected to be present for the discussions. Officials familiar with the developments suggested that key decisions are likely to emerge from the talks, with the ICC keen to break the impasse and ensure the high-profile India–Pakistan clash goes ahead as planned in the tournament.
According to a report in The Dawn, the result of this meeting is unlikely to be announced until PCB gets clearance from the government. However, several reports have claimed that there’s a growing optimism that the match will go ahead as scheduled and the ICC, and the wider cricketing world will be able to avoid the major financial losses.
