Islamabad, Jul 23 (PTI) Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir on Thursday said targeted action against terrorists would continue until their complete elimination.
He made these remarks during an interaction with participants of the 20th National Workshop Balochistan at General Headquarters, Rawalpindi, according to a statement by the army.
Addressing the participants, Munir said that consistent efforts of security forces and law enforcement agencies, backed by the support of people, would bring lasting peace to Balochistan.
“Targeted operations against Fitna al Khawarij and Fitna al Hindustan would continue with full resolve until the menace of terrorism and its abettors are eliminated from Pakistan,” he said.
Fitna al Khawarij
is a term used for the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) terrorists while Fitna al Hindustan refers to terrorists active in Balochistan.
India has slammed Islamabad’s decision to refer to groups inside its own borders as ‘Fitna al-Hindustan’ as nothing but “officially sponsored misinformation and disinformation dressed in religious terminology.” The field marshal reiterated Pakistan’s resolve to dismantle terrorist infrastructure wherever it poses a threat to the country and its people, the statement said.
Balochistan, Pakistan’s largest but least populous province, has long faced a separatist insurgency led by ethnic Baloch groups seeking greater autonomy or independence. It has also seen attacks by the TTP, which is separate from but allied with the Afghan Taliban. PTI SH GSP GSP
