Grammy-winning musician Ricky Kej on Tuesday highlighted Delhi’s worsening air pollution by posting a photo of dense smog with drastically reduced visibility, jokingly captioning it, “My selfie with Messi
in Delhi.” The Grammy-winning composer’s tweet came a day after Argentine football legend Lionel Messi concluded his three-day GOAT tour of India with the final leg at Arun Jaitley Stadium in the national capital.
On Monday, thick smog had blanketed the national capital just as Messi was scheduled to arrive, creating hazardous conditions and disrupting over 100 flights due to low visibility. Due to fog, visibility had dropped to near zero across large parts of the city, traffic slowed to a crawl and the India Meteorological Department issued an orange alert for fog, with temperatures plunging to 8.2 degrees Celsius.
Social media platforms were soon flooded with visuals of fog-covered roads, masked commuters and hazy skylines, prompting fans to respond with humour and memes.
Messi Concludes India Tour In Delhi
Despite adverse weather, Delhi successfully hosted the grand finale of Messi’s India tour, concluding the event on a high note amid enthusiastic fanfare. Messi arrived in the national capital following successful engagements in Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Mumbai. The on-field programme at Arun Jaitley Stadium featured a celebrity football match between the Minerva Messi All Stars and the Celebrity Messi All Stars.
After the game, Messi briefly interacted with players from both teams and later engaged with young footballers, sharing a few passes alongside Luis Suarez and Rodrigo De Paul, creating a memorable experience for the aspiring talents. The event concluded with a stage ceremony attended by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and other distinguished guests, including ICC Chairman Jay Shah, Delhi & District Cricket Association President Rohan Jaitley, and former Indian football captain Bhaichung Bhutia. During the ceremony, Jay Shah presented specially curated Indian cricket jerseys to Messi, Suarez, and De Paul, followed by the gifting of a commemorative cricket bat signed by legendary Indian cricketers to Messi.
