India’s Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill now tops the ICC ODI batting rankings. The 26-year-old right-handed batter from Punjab, who scored a couple of half-centuries for India in the three-match ODI series against England earlier this month (July 2026), jumped one place on Wednesday (July 29) to claim the No. 1 position.
He has 801 rating points to his credit. On the other hand, New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell is now second with 794 rating points.
India’s Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are in third and fourth positions with 767 and 758 rating points, respectively.
In the ICC T20I batting rankings, 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who scored two half-centuries in the three-match series against Zimbabwe last week and also won the Player of the Series
award, jumped 230 places. The left-handed batter from Samastipur in Bihar is now in 48th position in the T20I batting rankings with 536 rating points.
In the away series against Zimbabwe, Abhishek Sharma could only manage scores of 1, 8, and 2 in three matches, and his poor form with the bat has hurt him in the T20I batting rankings. He has dropped one place and is now ranked third with 819 rating points.
But India’s vice-captain Tilak Varma, who played an unbeaten knock of 60 runs from 29 balls against Zimbabwe in the second T20I, has moved up two places and is now ranked sixth.
There was a significant change in the ICC Test batting rankings as well, with Pakistan’s new Test captain Babar Azam gaining four places following his unbeaten half-century in the second innings of the first Test against the West Indies at Brian Lara Stadium.
In the Test bowling rankings, Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Abbas jumped nine places to take 17th position. The 36-year-old picked up three wickets in the first innings and five wickets in the second innings of the first Test against the West Indies.
West Indies seamer Jayden Seales, who picked up a five-wicket haul in the second innings to help his team win the match by 90 runs, also gained five places and is now ranked 24th. However, fellow fast bowler Shamar Joseph dropped six places to 20th.
In the ICC T20I bowling rankings, Varun Chakaravarthy, Jasprit Bumrah, and Arshdeep Singh fell three, five, and eight places, respectively, while Zimbabwe fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani gained 10 places to move up to 26th.
