Stock Market Today: The Indian equity market is expected to carry the positive momentum on Tuesday, given the favourable global cues, including the fall in crude oil prices and the US military strike called off.
Brent crude futures fell 2 per cent to $109 per barrel after President Donald Trump said he called off a planned military strike on Iran following appeals from Persian Gulf allies, fueling optimism that negotiations could restart.
Gift Nifty traded 37 points higher to 23,655, suggesting a flat start for Sensex and Nifty.
Sensex, Nifty Settle Flat On Monday
Benchmark indices ended largely flat on Monday amid volatile trade, as gains in select heavyweight stocks were offset by caution around global cues and profit booking at higher levels. The 30-share BSE Sensex rose 77.05
points, or 0.10 per cent, to close at 75,315.04 after touching an intraday high of 75,466.60 and a low of 74,180.26. The index opened at 74,807.97 against the previous close of 75,237.99.
Meanwhile, the broader Nifty 50 ended nearly unchanged, gaining just 6.45 points, or 0.03 per cent, to settle at 23,649.95.
Petrol, Diesel Get Costlier
Petrol and diesel prices were increased again on Tuesday, with fuel rates going up across all four metro cities.
The latest revision comes less than a week after fuel prices were raised by Rs 3 per litre amid rising global crude oil prices.
According to the revised retail sale prices (RSP) effective May 19, petrol prices in Kolkata rose by 96 paise to Rs 109.70 per litre, marking the steepest increase among the metros.
In Mumbai, petrol prices climbed by 91 paise to Rs 107.59 per litre, while Chennai recorded an increase of 82 paise, taking the price to Rs 104.49 per litre.
Diesel prices also witnessed a fresh hike across the country’s major cities.
