The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will stage the player auction for the 2027 edition of the Indian Premier League in December 2026. According to a report in Cricinfo on Friday (September 18), the last mini-auction of the 2025-27 cycle will be held in the second week of December.
As per the available information, to mark 20 years of the IPL, the Indian cricket board has also decided to celebrate the next edition in a grand manner.
A couple of days ago, IPL chairman Arun Singh Dhumal stated that the player auction for the 2027 season of the IPL is set to be held in India. He said that he is keen to bring the event back home after it was held overseas for the past three years.
The past three editions of the auction were held in Dubai,
Jeddah (mega auction) and Abu Dhabi.
“Every year we try for this to happen in India, but we don’t get the venue given the heavy marriage season. So, we definitely want it to be here this year, given that it would be a smaller auction and hopefully we will get the venue,” Dhumal was quoted as saying by PTI.
The host city for the auction will be decided based on the availability of the BCCI’s preferred venue.
WPL Auction on October 28 in Kochi
The 2027 edition of the Women’s Premier League will be played from January 14 to February 7, and the player auction will take place at the Grand Hyatt Kochi on October 28. The five franchises will have to submit their list of retained players by September 28.
“The first milestone ahead of the new season will be the Player Retention deadline on 28 September 2026. The five franchises will have the opportunity to retain players from their existing squads as they begin putting their combinations in place for the new season,” the WPL stated in a release.
“The next phase of squad building will take place at the TATA WPL Player Auction on 28 October 2026. The auction will be held at the Grand Hyatt Kochi, where the five franchises will look to complete and strengthen their squads for the upcoming edition,” the release added.
