Bengaluru commuters sitting on unpaid traffic challans have another shot at a clean slate. The Karnataka government has launched a fresh 20-day amnesty window from June 21, offering a 50% waiver on pending e-challan fines — the third such scheme in under three years, and the first to also cover Transport Department cases dating as far back as 1991.
This isn’t the government’s first attempt at clearing the backlog. A similar drive in November–December 2025 ran from November 21 to December 12, and the numbers were striking: over 77.4 lakh traffic violation cases were settled, netting nearly Rs 201 crore in fines.
Despite that, the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority estimates roughly Rs 2,827 crore in penalties is still outstanding across the state.
What Exactly Is Being Waived?
Pay 50% of your outstanding penalty during the 20-day window and the case is closed — no follow-up, no pending dues. The scheme covers both police-issued e-challans and Transport Department cases registered between 1991 and 2022 that remain unpaid.
Who Is Eligible?
Any vehicle owner with unpaid traffic fines or pending Transport Department cases. The order has been cleared by the Finance Department and kicks in June 21.
Why Bother Now?
Once the window closes, full penalties apply — and with Rs 2,827 crore still recoverable, the state is unlikely to let dues slide indefinitely.
