Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been “overwhelmed” by the messages he has received following his historic international debut on Saturday, when he became the youngest cricketer to represent India. Aged 15 years and 99 days, Sooryavanshi broke the long-standing record of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, who made his India debut at the age of 16 years and 205 days.
Sooryavanshi dazzled during his brief stay at the crease, smashing two sixes before being stumped for 14.
“Overwhelmed by all the messages,” Sooryavanshi posted on his Instagram stories. “Thank you to everyone of my well-wishers and seniors for your constant love and support. I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to represent my country, and I’ll always try to give my best for my team every single
time. Thank you for everything, everyone.”
Earlier, in an Instagram post, the opening batter wrote that he was now living his dream after receiving his maiden India cap.
“Living a dream we all saw together. Thank you to everyone who continues to support me and stand by me through my ups and downs. Grateful,” he wrote.
Sooryavanshi earned his maiden India call-up after a stunning campaign for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2026, during which he scored 776 runs and won the Orange Cap, becoming the youngest player to achieve the feat and surpassing the previous record set by Sai Sudharsan.
He, though, remained on the bench for the two-match T20I series in Ireland, which India lost 0-2. As the clamour for his debut continued to grow, the three-time world champions remained unfazed, sticking with their tried-and-tested opening pair of Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson.
However, with Samson registering another low score for a fourth consecutive match in the first T20I in Chester-le-Street, the team decided to hand Sooryavanshi his debut in the second T20I, with the wicketkeeper-batter making way.
India, though, lost the match by four wickets, with England taking a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.
