Lucknow, Jul 3 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh received above-normal rainfall on Friday, even as cumulative rainfall deficit during the ongoing southwest monsoon stood at 43 per cent since June 1, according to the India Meteorological Department.
The state received 6.2 mm rainfall on Friday against the season’s normal of 5.7 mm. This was 9 per cent above normal.
While West Uttar Pradesh recorded 6.4 mm rainfall, 34 per cent above normal, East Uttar Pradesh received 6 mm, 4 per cent below normal.
Rainfall activity was uneven across the state.
Budaun received the highest rainfall at 38 mm, followed by Chitrakoot (30 mm), Kanpur City (27.3 mm), Sambhal (22.3 mm), Fatehpur (21.6 mm), Meerut (21.5 mm) and Kheri (20.8 mm).
Moderate rainfall was also recorded in Lalitpur,
Banda, Kasganj, Balrampur, Hamirpur, Barabanki and Sultanpur.
However, several districts, particularly in eastern Uttar Pradesh, including Bahraich, Ballia, Basti, Bhadohi, Deoria, Gonda, Kushinagar, Maharajganj, Mau and Mirzapur, recorded no rainfall.
Despite Friday’s showers, the state has received only 64.5 mm rainfall against the normal of 112.5 mm between June 1 and July 3, leaving it with a seasonal deficit of 43 per cent.
The deficit is more severe in East Uttar Pradesh, which has received 63.5 mm rainfall against the normal of 126.6 mm, a shortfall of 50 per cent. West Uttar Pradesh has recorded 65.9 mm rainfall against the normal of 92.8 mm, a deficit of 29 per cent.
Among eastern districts, Bhadohi has recorded the highest seasonal rainfall deficit at 98 per cent, followed by Kaushambi (96 per cent), Chandauli (93 per cent) and Jaunpur (91 per cent).
The state capital Lucknow has received 38.7 mm rainfall so far this season against the normal of 101.6 mm, a deficit of 62 per cent. In western Uttar Pradesh, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Pilibhit and Shamli have each recorded an 88 per cent deficit.
A few districts, however, have received surplus rainfall during the season.
Sambhal has recorded 192.3 mm rainfall, or 109 per cent above normal, while Etah, Bulandshahr, Badaun, Meerut and Muzaffarnagar have also reported above-normal rainfall.
In eastern Uttar Pradesh, Gonda is the only district with a marginal seasonal surplus of 3 per cent. PTI CDN RUK RUK
